Patriots Sign Four More!

The Somerset Patriots announced the signings of right-handed pitchers Derrell McCall, Mike MacDonald, Justin Cassel, and left-hand pitcher Matt Crim for the 2012 season.

Derrell McCall returns for his second season with the Patriots and third in the Atlantic League. McCall was originally drafted by the Oakland A's in the 10th round (300th overall) of the 2000 MLB Amateur Draft. He pitched five seasons in Oakland A's organization, including 2002 when he posted an 8-5 record with a 3.32 ERA in a 132.2 innings pitched for Modesto(A+). McCall was released by the A's after the 2004 season, and signed with the Worcester Tornadoes of the Can-Am League in 2005. After only one season with Worcester, McCall signed with the Joliet of the Northern League in 2006. That season he had a 6-5 record with a 3.98 ERA. The following season he was signed by the Florida Marlins organization, where he pitched for three seasons. In 2010, he signed with the York Revolution, and pitched in 21 games before being traded to Camden in late July. Last season, he had a 5-8 record with a 4.42 ERA in 99.2 innings for the Patriots.

Mike MacDonald was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 15th round (447th overall) of the 2004 MLB Amateur Draft out of the University of Maine. MacDonald played seven seasons in the Blue Jays organization from 2004 to 2008 and 2011. He's also played in the Los Angeles Angels and San Fransisco Giants organizations.  He's pitched in 111 games at the Triple-A level.

Justin Cassel was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 7th round (225th overall) of the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft out of the University of California-Irvine. He's pitched six seasons in professional baseball, all with the White Sox organization. He had three stints at the Triple-A level in 2009, 2010 and 2010. He has a minor league career 25-24 record with a 3.49 ERA. 

Matt Crim was a 21st round selection (628th overall) by the Atlanta Braves in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft out of The Citadel. He pitched three seasons in the Braves organization, posting a 19-23 record with a 4.75 ERA.
