LI Ducks Blog: Ducks Finalize Roster, Sign Three!

The Long Island Ducks have added the final additions to their roster as they begin spring training. The Ducks announced that they have signed pitchers Randy Keisler, Eric Niesen and catcher Mike Rivera for the 2012 season. The Ducks also announced that catcher Mitch Canham has signed with St. Louis Cardinals organization and well be assigned to Triple-A Memphis.

Keisler will be entering his third stint in the Atlantic League, and second with the Ducks. He previously played for Southern Maryland in 2009, and Long Island in 2010. 


Randy Keisler was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 2nd round (67th overall) of the 1998 MLB Amateur Draft. From 2000-2007, he pitched in 151 major leagues for the New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, Oakland A's and St. Louis Cardinals. He has a career 4-4 record with a 6.63 ERA in his big league career. Last season, he posted a 7-7 record with a 4.67 ERA for the Los Angeles Dodgers Triple-A affiliate Albuquerque. He has a carer 86-71 record with a 3.96 ERA in his affiliated minor league career.


Eric Niesen was originally drafted by the New York Mets in the 3rd round (99th overall) of the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft out of Wake Forrest University. He played all five seasons of his professional career in the New York Mets organization, including 76 games at the Double-A level. He has a career 20-40 record with a 4.54 ERA in 430 innings pitched.


Mike Rivera signed as undrafted free agent with the Detroit Tigers in 1997. From 2001-2011, he played in 189 major league games for the Detroit Tigers, San Deigo Padres, Milwaukee Brewers and Florida Marlins. He has a .239 batting average with 13 home runs and 69 RBI in his major league career. Rivera spent most of the 2011 seasons with the Brewers Triple-A affiliate Nashville. In 1055 minor league games, Rivera has a .260 batting average with 174 home runs and 682 RBI.
