Paul Oseguera will be entering his third season with the Bluefish. He was originally drafted 16th round (476th overall) by the San Fransisco Giants in the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft out of UCLA. He pitched four seasons in the Giants organization, including 2007 when he posted 10-6 record with a 3.54 ERA for San Jose(A+). Oseguera signed with the Bluefish in 2010, and had a great to the season winning three of his first six starts while posting a 2.36 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 42 innings of work. In May of that seasons he has his contract purchased by the A's organization, who sent him to Stockton (A+). After pitching only seven games for Stockton, Oseguera was released and returned to Bridgeport to finish out the season. In 2011, Oseguera had an 11-5 record with a 4.53 ERA for the Bluefish, and was named to the 2011 Atlantic League All-Star Second Team.
Jonah Bayliss was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 7th round (198th overall) of the 2002 MLB Amateur Draft out of Trinity College. From 2005 to 2007, he pitched in 61 major leagues games for the Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates, posting a 5-4 record with a 6.75 ERA. He's also pitched in the Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros organizations. Last season, he had a 2-3 record with a 3.54 and 18 saves in 40.2 innings of work for the Lancaster Barnstormers.
The Bluefish addressed two major needs today by adding a starter and another releiver. Oseguera will be either their #1 or #2 starting pitcher, while Bayliss was be used mostly as a setup guy, and closer if needed.
