The Somerset Patriots have signed left-handed pitcher Roy Merritt for the 2012 season.Merritt was originally drafted by the New York Mets in the 29th round (903rd overall) of the 2007 MLB Amateur draft out of Southern University. He pitched five seasons in the Mets organization, including three seasons at the Double-A level, from 2009 to 2011. He has a career 13-14 record with 29 saves, and a 3.83 ERA in 282 innings pitched.
